Night Guard & Mouth Guard

Fitted Night & Mouth Guard in Colorado Springs

Mouth guards are coverings worn over teeth, and often used to protect teeth from injury from teeth grinding and during sports.

What are Night Guards and Mouth Guards?

Guards

Night guards and mouth guards are specifically designed to protect your teeth during the nighttime as well as when playing close contact sports. Night guards will prevent teeth from coming into contact while you sleep if you are prone to grinding. Mouth guards are essential when playing sports, as they protect the teeth from damage and trauma if you or a child gets hit in the mouth. Both night guards and mouth guards are made using high-quality materials so that they last for years before needing replacement.

Why do you need Night Guards and Mouth Guards?

When you come in for your bi-annual dental appointment, Dr. Buccellato will examine your teeth and look for signs of tooth grinding. If you grind your teeth, it is more than likely being done during the nighttime when you aren’t even aware of it. For children, teens and adults who play close contact sports, Dr. Buccellato will recommend a professional mouth guard to protect your teeth. Both of these appliances are custom made to fit comfortably and securely.

Who is a good candidate for Night Guards and Mouth Guards?

Guards

Patients who continually grind their teeth as well as those who play sports are good candidates for both night guards and mouth guards. These appliances need to worn either throughout the night or while you play sports to fully protect your teeth. The guards are designed to provide cushion in front of and between teeth, preventing them from being damaged in any way. These appliances can essentially save your teeth and prevent the need for extensive dental treatment.

What happens during the procedure for Night Guards and Mouth Guards?

Once it is determined that you will benefit from either a night guard or mouth guard, Dr. Buccellato will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are quickly whisked off to a local lab where the guards are made for you. Guards are made using comfortable, high-quality materials that are meant to last. The guard will need to be cleaned daily to prevent bacterial overgrowth. It is important that you wear the guards when necessary to protect your teeth. You may need to come in after several years to have new guards made for you.
