What is a Dental Implant?

Dental technology is changing drastically and dental implants are becoming a go-to for many patients who are completely missing their teeth. Instead of going with a fixed bridge or partial denture, implants replace only the tooth that is missing. They are completely permanent and will last an entire lifetime. These small titanium rods are easy to insert and heal relatively quickly.

Why might you need Dental Implants?

You might be advised to have a dental implant placed if you are missing one or more of your teeth. Patients who have dentures may choose implants because they can help to keep the appliance securely in their mouth. You will find that dental implants are a permanent solution to many of your introral problems. They are durable and can withstand a lot of pressure, making them a lifelong option for patients wanting to change their smile.

Why might you be a good candidate for a Dental Implant?

To be considered for dental implant surgery, you’re going to need to come into our office to have a consultation. Dr. Buccellato will determine if you’re a viable candidate for the procedure and if so, what type of implant is best suited to you. Patients with poor bone density or auto immune diseases that affect their ability to heal may not be eligible for the procedure. However, most healthy adults who want a dental implant are easily able to have them placed.

What can you expect with the Dental Implant procedure?

To begin, you’ll need to come into our office at Alpine Dentistry and have a consultation with Dr. Buccellato. You will be scheduled for surgery at a different time. For the actual procedure, you will receive an anesthetic of your choice to make the visit more comfortable. A small incision is made in the gums and the implant is inserted. The titanium implant will be placed into the bone and sutures used to close the incision. The implant should heal over a six-month period. You may need to come into the office to have the implant checked during the time it is healing. Once it’s healed, a crown can be placed on top.
