Implant Supported Dentures

The implants keep the dentures securely and firmly in place, creating the appearance of a full, healthy smile. Implants are permanent, so you can enjoy the benefits of implant supported dentures for the rest of your life.

What are Implant Supported Dentures?

Implant supported dentures use dental implants to keep the appliance in place. A “snap-in”, or “anchored denture” is a denture that is held in by implants. Two to four implants are recommended. More implants will improve the stability of the denture. The denture is removable by the patient to allow for proper cleaning, but stays anchored throughout the day.

Why do you need Implant Supported Dentures?

Snap-on-dentures

You may want or need implant supported dentures because you’re tired of dealing with your dentures constantly slipping throughout the day. If you lost your teeth at an early age because of trauma, decay or periodontal disease, you may be looking for an option that allows the dentures to look more natural. Several implants are placed beneath your gums and will heal to create a secured anchor for your appliance plate. There may be a bar or clips that are used to keep the plate in place.

What makes you a candidate for Implant Supported Dentures?

To be a candidate for implant surgery, you need to have solid bone mass and free of diseases and illnesses that prevent your body from healing properly. It is important that you have a new plate of dentures made that are designed to clip onto the implants once they have healed. You need to give the implants time to heal, since most will fuse with the bone in roughly three to five months. Dr. Buccellato will then fit you with a new denture and instruct you on how to remove it.

What can you expect with the Implant Supported Dentures procedure?

The first step to implant supported dentures is placing the actual implants. This is done through a simple surgery. Several implants are placed to create a uniform hold to the denture plate. Once the implants have healed, you’ll have impressions made of your mouth. These impressions are used to create the denture that you’ll be wearing. You will come back into the office to have the dentures adjusted to make them more comfortable.
