We even offer same-day crowns using the latest technology to create durable dental restoration devices right in our office for your convenience.

The Difference Between a Dental Hygienist and an Assistant

Dental hygienists must have a license to practice through the Colorado Dental Board. These professionals provide clinical oral health treatment, prevention, and education to control dental disease under the supervision of dentists who hold certification from the American Dental Association. A dental hygienist must have an associate’s degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and may go on to earn a bachelor of science in dental hygiene.

Responsibilities of the dental hygienist include administering sealants and fluoride treatments, removing tartar and plaque from teeth and gums, recording patient treatment and care plans, and providing education about oral hygiene.

A dental hygienist may begin his or her career as a dental assistant. These individuals assist the dentist with patient care and make sure people who visit the office have a safe, comfortable experience. Some of the duties performed by a dental assistant include scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records and charts, sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and equipment, assisting during dental exams and procedures, taking x-rays, and performing other tasks around the office.

When you meet our team, you’ll understand why it’s our people who give Alpine Dentistry such an outstanding relationship for patient care. Our dentist, dental hygienists, and dental assistants have the experience to answer your questions and provide the information you need to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

At Alpine Dentistry, we have deep knowledge and versatile training to care for all your family members. Dr. Buccellato was inspired by the friendly, supportive family dentist he had as a child to establish his own similar practice as an adult. As a Detroit native, he earned his dentistry degree at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where he learned to care for patients with compassionate skills. Outside of his practice, he loves spending time outdoors, a favorite pastime of many Colorado residents. He has a special interest in oral restoration techniques, including dentures and implants.
