Dental Sealants In Colorado Springs
A dental sealant is is a thin, plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth to prevent tooth decay.
What is a Dental Sealant?
Dental sealants are thin and completely clear in nature. Their main purpose is to protect one or more teeth from decay. They are ideal for children as well as adults who are prone to developing cavities. The procedure for a dental sealant is quick and requires absolutely no anesthetic.
Why might you need Sealants?
While many people think of sealants as something just for kids, they can be incredibly beneficial for adults as well. A sealant is ideal for patients who are more prone to developing cavities and deep dental decay. In general, the sealant can prevent the need for fillings, root canals and other more invasive procedures. Sealants can last for up to three years with proper care and dental hygiene maintenance.
What makes you a candidate for Dental Sealants?
To determine if you would benefit from sealants, you’ll need to come in for an exam and consultation with Dr. Buccellato. Together, we can determine if you or your child would benefit from what dental sealants can do for the health of the teeth. Adults who have deep cusps and grooves in their teeth may find sealants to be ideal because it prevents decay from forming in these areas. If your child has already lost several of their baby teeth to decay, sealants can preserve the teeth that are left.
What can you expect with the Sealant procedure?
You or your child will first come in and be seated in the Alpine Dentistry dental chair. A thin liquid is then brushed onto any vulnerable tooth. With the use of a blue curing light, this liquid hardens and forms a protective barrier around the tooth. There is absolutely no anesthetic needed to place sealants. With proper care and hygiene, you can expect your new sealants to last anywhere from one to three years. Once the sealant has worn away, new ones can be placed as needed.
