A crown restores the tooth to its normal shape, size, and function. A crown can make the tooth stronger or improve the way it looks.

Dental crowns are designed to restore the beauty and functionality of a tooth that has been compromised. There are several types of crowns available and each is designed to provide you with a realistic-looking restoration. Ceramic and porcelain dental crowns are a popular, durable option. CEREC crowns can be made at the same time as your initial appointment, preventing the need for coming in for a second visit

Why do you need a Dental Crown?

You may need a dental crown because one or more of your teeth has been compromised. Most often, patients who have had a root canal will need to have the tooth in question crowned. If a tooth has broken, cracked or fractured, you may also be advised to have a crown placed. Dental crowns are incredibly long-lasting and durable, often providing patients with years of reliable consistency.

What makes you a good candidate for Dental Crowns?

An exam is required to determine if a dental crown is the right choice for you. In order to be considered for a crown, one or more of your teeth has to be compromised in some way. In certain cases, teeth with exceptionally large fillings may need to eventually be crowned. Dr. Buccellato is here to help you choose the dental crown procedure that’s right for you.

What happens during the procedure for a Dental Crown?

Your appointment involves filing down the existing tooth to make room for the crown. For porcelain and ceramic crowns, impressions are made and sent off to a local laboratory. The crowns are made for you and sent back to our office, where you will come in to have them permanently placed. For CEREC same-day crowns, digital impressions are made of your teeth to create a custom crown in-office. This prevents the need for a second visit and allows you to go home with the permanent crown already in your mouth.
