3-on-6 dentures simply refers to an alternative to the ever-popular all-on-4 option.
What are 3 on 6 Dentures?
3-on-6 dentures simply refers to an alternative to the ever-popular all-on-4 option. Rather than placing just four dental implants to keep a full denture plate in place, we place six dental implants. These six implants then hold three separate bridges in place to fill and perfect your smile. The final result is a more natural-looking smile and a more secure dental option.
Why would 3 on 6 Dentures be needed?
3-on-6 dentures are ideal for patients who are missing all of their teeth or who have advanced gum disease and will be having the remaining teeth extracted. These three bridges are custom made to fit the implants perfectly, so the fit is more comfortable and natural-looking. Some of the benefits of 3-on-6 implants rather than all-on-4 include:
- A more natural-looking smile
- Less expensive to replace bridges rather than a full denture
- More comfortable
- Easier to floss and maintain
- More secure
- No bulky, artificial gum line
Who is a candidate for 3 on 6 Dentures?
To determine if you’re a candidate for 3-on-6 dentures, we’ll perform an exam and take x-rays. If you have areas of bone loss where the implants need to be placed, we will recommend that a bone grafting be done prior to treatment. Sinus lifts may be necessary for those who do not have enough bone in the upper arch where the implants are needed. However, most patients who want and even need these implants can safely have the procedure done.
What is the process for 3 on 6 Dentures?
The first step is to have you come in for a consultation. We will take x-rays to determine if and where the implants can be placed. You will then come in for the actual procedure, which begins with anesthetic or sedative of your choosing. We then work to place six individual titanium dental implants in strategic locations throughout the jaw. These implants will heal in roughly three months, at which time you’ll come back in to have the three bridges made for you. These bridges are made using a dental impression or scan of your teeth. You’ll then come back into the office once the bridges have been made so that they can be placed individually over the dental implants. Maintaining your new smile is as easy as brushing normally and flossing between the three bridges.
